About

Produced by the Cubbagudta Plantation in the heart of the Daintree Rainforest.

Australian Daintree is a premium black tea sourced from the lush rainforest region in Far North Queensland, one of Australia's most pristine wilderness areas. Cubbagudta means 'rainy place' in the language of the local Kuku Yalanji Aboriginal people.

The Daintree's high rainfall, tropical climate and rich soils create ideal conditions for producing the natural sweetness and depth that sets this tea apart from other familiar black teas.

Cultivated without pesticides and processed in the crush, tear, curl (CTC) style, it brews quickly into a deep copper liquor with rich flavours of cacao and malt. Rounder and softer than a brisk Assam or a bright Ceylon, it's a full-bodied cup that drinks well black but is perfect lovely with a splash of milk.

An excellent choice for afternoon tea - break out the Anzacs and Tim Tams - this wholly Australian tea offers a truly unique character and a smooth, satisfying cup.

Tasting

Leaf

Small, uniform leaf pellets in CTC style of copper-brown, hinting towards a bright outback orange. Dense and quick to give up colour, these leaves give a fast, full extraction rather than slow unfurling.

Aroma

Malt and cocoa lead – warm, sweet and biscuity, like dark chocolate and toasted grain. Rounder and softer than a brisk Assam, with a faint dried-fruit edge. Clean and inviting, no smoke or sharpness.

Liquor

Deep copper-red, bright and clear. Medium-bodied and smooth, with malt and cocoa carrying through from the nose and moderate, rounded astringency. A full-flavoured everyday black tea that's great on its own, but stands up well to a splash of milk.

Preparation

How to brew Australian Daintree

A robust CTC black to be brewed in the most typical Western style - boiling water and a little waiting time.

Temperature 100°C / 212°F
Measure 2.5g per 250ml
Steep Time 3-5 min
Infusions 1
Brewer's Note

A straightforward, forgiving brew. Strong enough to stand up to milk well, so adjust the steep as preferred: shorter for a smoother black cup, a touch longer if you're adding milk.
