About

Conceived around historically traded luxuries, this Earl Grey-style tea adds vanilla and cornflowers.

Not your typical Earl Grey, this is a softer, creamier take on the classic – a premium black tea base scented with bergamot, rounded with vanilla, and finished with blue cornflower petals.

This 'traders' blend combines three of the most heavily traded commodities of the 18th and 19th centuries: tea, bergamot oil, and vanilla bean. Each of these ingredients were once expensive enough to be smuggled, monopolised, and even faked.

While the classic Earl Grey signature is here – bright bergamot citrus over malty black Ceylon tea – the vanilla softens the citrus while the cornflowers add a faint dry-floral lift. Less brisk than a London-style Earl Grey, gentler in the cup, and absolutely delightful with milk.

Cut black tea in dark brown grades, scattered with bright blue cornflower petals. Immediately aromatic, the bergamot and vanilla notes are fresh before steeping.

Aroma

Bright citrus oil with a soft and rounded vanilla scent. Less assertive than a classic Earl Grey, the vanilla sweetens the bergamots gentle aroma.

Liquor

Amber-brown, medium-bodied. Bergamot citrus across the palate first, vanilla settling in behind, both carried on a clean malty black base. Smooth, low astringency, no bitter edge and a mild, lingering sweetness. Holds well to milk, deepening the creamy flavour.

How to brew Traders Grey

Traders Grey brews best in classic fashion with a heaped scoop of tea leaves per cup in a tea strainer or teapot.

Temperature 100°C / 212°F
Measure 2.5g per 250ml
Steep Time 3-5 min

Brewer's Note

A straightforward, forgiving brew. Strong enough to stand up to milk well, so adjust the steep as preferred: shorter for a smoother black cup, a touch longer if you're adding milk.
